J&T to built a hard coal power plant in the republic of Moldova

This is the biggest foreign direct investment so far in the Republic of Moldova. “The construction of a new power source in Ungheni is a major step toward the country’s energy independence and security. Our considerable investment will serve as an impetus for the economic and social development of the Ungheni region. We also believe that it will have positive impacts on the economy of the entire Moldova,” said Daniel Křetínský, J&T Group’s partner responsible for corporate investments.
Around one-third of the power generated in Ungheni will be distributed to local consumers. The Unhgeni power station will be connected to the European energy system and, thus, it will be able to export a part of its production to the European Union. “By exporting a portion of our production to the European Union, we will be able to supply power in Moldova at the lowest possible price,” said Tomáš David, J&T Group’s Energy Sector Development Director.
In the Ungheni power station, J&T will install the CFB technology, a state-of-the-art system guaranteeing minimum emissions and meeting the stringiest EU standards. As one of the so called “Clean Coal” technologies, it significantly reduces emissions by means of an advanced burning method utilizing modified chemical and physical processes.
It is expected that the Ungheni Power Station will be launched in 2015.

Over the next 5 years, the J&T Group plans to increase the installed capacity of its power and heat sources to a minimum of 1,000 MWe, investing some CZK 25 billion in total. J&T’s currently installed power source capacity totals 330 MW (for power generation) and 1,386 MW (for heat generation).
Developing renewable energy sources is also one of J&T Group’s priorities in the energy sector: in April 2008 J&T launched the two most powerful wind turbines in the Czech Republic, located in Pchery (each one with an installed capacity of  3 MW), and in November 2008, it launched a solar power station (528 kW) in Hustopeče u Brna.
