The most powerful wind turbines finished in Pchery
The J&T Group’s wind turbine construction project (2x3 MW) was implemented with a total investment of CZK 190 million. The turbines should generate up to 13 GWh of electricity in total each year. The wind turbines in Pchery are the most powerful “windmills” in the Czech Republic. “The construction of wind turbines in Pchery has confirmed our long-term strategy of strengthening our position in the energy sector. One of our priorities is the development of renewable energy sources, especially wind turbines, which we consider very promising”, said Daniel Křetínský, J&T Group partner responsible for the Group’s corporate investment.
The general contractor for the wind turbine project, ČKD Blansko Wind, finished the construction of the second wind turbine on Friday, 8 February, successfully installing the rotor with blades on the axle assembly. The first wind turbine in Pchery was finished on 28 January.
Both machines use the well-tested Finnish WinWinD technology with the Multibrid system. The installed WWD-3 turbines are the first in the Czech Republic to use a rotor with a diameter of 100 metres (incl. the blades). The height of the turbine rotor axis (i.e. the height of the pylon) is 88 metres.
Both wind turbines should start generating power this March. The average annual amount of power generated by the wind turbines in Pchery could be up to 13 GWh. The location of the wind turbines is advantageous for the municipality of Pchery, which will get CZK 240,000 every year.
The WinWinD turbines are fitted with an automatic control system which controls the generator and the mains, optimising the generation of power according to prevailing wind conditions. The advantage of the turbine is that even at a lower wind speed, it has high efficiency thanks to the unique design of its blades and the control of their angle.
In comparison with previously installed rotors, WWD-3 turbines can generate approximately 15 % more electricity under the same wind conditions. The Finnish company WinWinD ranks third among the world’s manufacturers in the deliveries of wind turbines with a capacity of more than 2.5 MW. The WWD-3 turbine is one of the first machines with a capacity of 3 MW. A total of 20 turbines of this type have been installed in Europe (Finland, Estonia) since 2004 and their high reliability has been tested during their operation.
